Description
What it is: The bottom portion of a fantastic old grand home. Extremely spacious, with about the best garden we've ever seen in a private residence (which we don't have to maintain, it's part of the price. We have patio furniture and will have a charcoal grill next month).
The Caterham National Rail station is right down the hill, from which you'll get to Victoria or Bridge stations in about 45min. Parking space included. 20min commute by car to Gatwick. Washer and dryer in-house. Top of the line appliances including Astra Gourmet AG espresso machine and Hottop coffee roaster (yeah, we're into it). Your own private en-suite bathroom complete with shower, a ridiculous amount of storage space in both bathroom and bedroom closets (the bathroom closets could only partially be fit into the picture frame). A monstrous living room area with a world-class sound system (cropped out of the picture, and address not given for security reasons. Just trust us for now - you've never seen or heard anything like this before). UHD 4K television planned for summer. Phasing into all-LED lighting for more efficient living. Spare/guest room with hide-a-bed (to be upgraded to a proper bed later this year). Guest room is common between us, whoever has guests, that's their room.
All the rooms except your bedroom are furnished, but there is space in the main living room for more chairs or some media shelving if you like. We've got all the appliances and kitchen tools covered, and it's all best quality stuff.
Basically, buy yourself a bed and an end table and it's instant awesome lifestyle. Catherham is a charming and completely safe little town that has everything you NEED (Waitrose, Morrison's, and Boots are also down the hill, right next to the station), and London is up the train tracks for everything you WANT.
Who we are:
A non-stereotypical Canadian/American couple who average out to mid 30s who work offshore internationally. We expect to be present at the house less than half the year, and probably more like 1/3 of the year. Yes, that means that you're getting half rent, with essentially the entire place to yourself for 2/3-1/2 of the year (even when we're there, the place is long and we're at opposite ends, so nobody is in anybody's face or hearing one another). We're audiophiles who love classic rock, jazz, and some classical. We also have high end headphones for when you want quiet. We're coffee geeks, and we roast our own and have the best equipment to do so (which you are also welcome to use). We're also into classic movies in the highest fidelity, and we enjoy great food, wine and single malts. We are easy going and we enjoy sarcastic humour. We love this house and think the lifestyle here is almost impossible to beat in the greater London area, even at twice the price.
Who you are:
Any professional, male or female, who is also easy going with a good sense of humour. You have similar likes to ours, or at least won't be offended by ours. You are responsible enough to take care of our things when you use them, you won't drink our whisky while we're gone, and you know how to set a volume knob so as not to have the police come or get us on a bad footing with the neighbours. Basically, while you have retained your youthful spirit, you are an adult and know how to enjoy life without putting other people out.
The place is positively ideal for someone on a multi-year work assignment who doesn't want to spend a dime kitting a place out only to eventually move. This place is ready to go, and whatever your pleasure, we've got the best tools and the space to enjoy it.
Price includes council taxes. Price does not include utilities, which we will split in half, as long as you are as practical as we are and you don't expect to heat an old house to 25C all winter. We don't have or want cable television (we watch our video material off of discs/internet), so if you want to pay for that, that would be on you.
