Description

This house is ideal for an (expatriate) family who wants to enjoy central London to the full.

It is a fantastic house to entertain: We used to have dinner parties with 20 people. It only has offices below, to the South, West and East. To be noisy never has been a problem for us and our tenants.

The location in Fitzrovia is very bohemian and allows you to walk to the Westend theatres, Camden and Soho Jazzclubs, the Royal Opera and Wigmore Hall - if you chose Kensington and Knightsbridge it will always require a cab and throw yourself into horrific traffic. The British Museum is only 20 min away, as is the Royal Academy of Arts on Piccadilly and the National Portrait gallery. It is a house for families obsessed with art and culture.

The house is the oldest house on Mortimer Street - it is truly Georgian, built mid 1700's. John Curtis, an 19th century entomologist (Insects) lived here. History is all around you in this house. The floors are wonky and creak. The stone stairs are original 1750's and the house really is all about stairs. The famous English wallpaper company Cole & Son had its headquarter here for a long time. Enjoy sitting in the north facing kitchen where some of the most famous Cole & Son wallpapers were designed.

The house is very light and airy which is hard to find in London - it has a south facing roof terrace which is the same size as the diningroom hence you can entertain at least 12 people on the roof. The north facing side overlooks a dead end road with low mews houses.

Regents Park is 12 minute walk.

This maisonette would be ideal for a family with 3 children - or 2 children and a nanny.

Schools: The Southbank International School and Halcyon School and ICS (International Community School) offering the International Baccalaureate and the programmes leading to it (MYP and PYP) are all near by. Obviously there are loads of well known English schools in the area as well.

The house is perfect for retreating from the buzz of London: in summer the roof terrace is the best place to relax, in winter you can use the sauna and sit in front of the fire.
